The Council is the governing body of the Polytechnic. The Constitution of the TPP Council is governed by the requirements of the Education Act 1989 (and any amendments).
Council meetings are public and are usually held on the last Wednesday of every month (excluding December) at 11.00 am in the Conference Room at Tai Poutini Polytechnic’s Greymouth Campus. The meeting dates for the remainder of 2010 are:

The functions of the Council of Tai Poutini Polytechnic are to:
appoint the chief executive and to monitor and evaluate his or her performance
prepare and submit a proposed plan if the institution is seeking funding under a funding mechanism that provides for funding via plans
ensure that the institution is managed in accordance with its plan, and to determine policies to implement that plan
determine, subject to the State Sector Act 1988, the policies of the institution in relation to the management of its affairs
undertake planning relating to the Institution’s long-term strategic direction.

Four members appointed by the Minister of Tertiary Education
Four members appointed by the Council in accordance with its statutes.
